LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, DAY FOURTEEN

Day fourteen for us was our three hour trip back to San Diego. If you’re flying out, your closest airport will be LAX in Los Angeles. I have no idea if you’ll have the same bitter-sweet feeling that we had on the ride home. We anticipated the comfort of lying in our own beds, our dog, Buster, “yelling” at us with incessant barking as we walk through the door as if to chastise us, “where have you been?!” and all the other comforting feelings about being back home after a long trip. We were already nostalgic, though, from the moment we pressed “home” on the navigation screen. We remembered the majesty of Yosemite, our sandy bike clothes from Mammoth Mountain, the ethereal feeling of soaring through the clouds with the assistance of a parasail, catching our breath as we inhaled the rapids of the Truckee River. It was all part of our adventure together, one small element of our bonding as a family, all the little moments, some of which stand out more than others, but which when taken all together, become the memories you take with you as you gently and elegantly age through life.
