The Copacabana Palace Spa is not only the largest urban spa in Brazil, it’s also a haven for all those needing to relax and recover from the excitement of Rio de Janeiro.

Rio de Janeiro is a pulsing, vibrant city, full of colour and excitement and life. But sometimes, especially after travelling long distances to arrive in this city of adventure, you need some time to unwind. The Copacabana Palace Spa is the perfect place to do just that.
To start off with, they have two rooms devoted only to putting you in a peaceful frame of mind. The Timeless Lounges are equipped with comfortable chaise longues, dimmed lighting and soothing music, and have fresh water, tea and coffee, nuts and petit fours on offer should you feel like a snack. The lounges provide the perfect segue between the chaos of the outside world and the deep serenity of the treatment rooms, and the downstairs lounge is located right next to the spa and sauna room, the perfect place to ease out any residual tension.
The other reason you’ll fall in love with this spa is the serene atmosphere after hours. Open until 10pm, an 8pm massage is quite simply the most heavenly way to ease into a good night’s sleep. The whole spa is softly lit by candles, and as you walk up the stairwell to the second floor, you’ll feel as if you’re ascending into a different plane – one where stress is not on the menu. We tried the signature treatment, a Copacabana Massage, which was a deeply relaxing deep tissue massage using the whole arm (up to the elbow) in a distinctive style involving a lot of oil and frequent fast brush strokes. Extremely soothing, and perfect for any tension in the back and shoulders. You can choose between a one person or two person treatment room, and if you decide on a couple’s massage the rooms are large and private, with plenty of time to unwind once the massage is complete. The airy lilac, beige and white interiors, soft lighting, mirrors and wooden floors all serve to create a space of peace and tranquility, a space in which it’s impossible to hold on to any semblance of stress.
Rio may well be the city of excitement and glamour, but throw in a dose of calm and serenity and you’ll enjoy it far more… Copacabana Palace Spa is the ideal place to unwind, refresh and prepare yourself for one of the world’s most thrilling cities.
